TROLLER + THOUSAND FOOT WHALE CLAW – Post Tour – July 2012

• TROLLER & THOUSAND FOOT WHALE CLAW took a quick trip up to NYC and Philly in July of 2012. It was a driving-intensive hand-full of dates, from ATX to NYC and back again – the bands give big-thanks to both WIERD WEDNESDAYS (in Manhattan) and SHEA STADIUM (in Brookyln) for hosting the amazing shows.

SLOW PUMP YEAR 2

The second year of our unofficial SXSW showcase went real well. Lots of great bands, both local & international, banged-out memorable sets all day, and night, and into the wee hours of the morning. Extensive coverage was provided by Ruth Saxelby of Dummy Magazine (UK), who shot lots of videos (seen below) & wrote lots of nice words about her experience. Links to the reviews are found below when available.

Bands included Xander Harris, ssleeperhold, Silent Land Time Machine, Black Jeans, Agent A & Omoe, Troller, Laybac, Food Pyramid, Thousand Foot Whale Claw, M. Geddes Gengras, Sun Araw, Sleep∞Over and D’eon (ex-Pocahaunted bass masster DIVA also played a surprise set)…

Check out the photos and videos below…

TROLLER

Dummy Mag Live Review“Troller rule – and hard. I saw them at the Slow Pump show…The Austin trio make towering, black hole evoking synth jams led by singer Amber with abstract operatic force (she starts about midway through this video). They sound like a forcefield, or like a thousand magnets suspended in the air, repelling, vibrating, filling the room with a thrilling tension.”

THOUSAND FOOT WHALE CLAW

Dummy Mag Live Review“Thousand Foot Whale Claw are a local supergroup from Austin, Texas, made up of members of Pure X, Survive and Troller. They were also on the bill at the epic Slow Pump house party show during SXSW…I have no idea how long Thousand Foot Whale Claw played for – it could’ve been 10 minutes or 100 – because they played without pause, their ultra spacey drone music a slow-burn joy to zone out to.”

SUN ARAW

Full Dummy Mag Live Review of Sun Araw here // below photos by WEIRD MAGIC overlord Erez Avissar. Sun Araw’s band was Cameron S. + M. Geddes Gengras & Diva (the plastic flowers below served as a backdrop for Diva’s weird Druid funk that followed the Sun Araw set). Right on:

M. GEDDES GENGRAS

Holodeck will be releasing a tape of Geddes’ later on this year (Behind the Curtain // HD007), but, we were lucky enough to catch a full-on modular blow-out of a set during SLOW PUMP. Wish there was audio of this…

SLEEP∞OVER

Dummy Mag Live Review of Sleep∞Over here

Our good friend Stefanie Franciotti (S∞O) played near the end of the night and took time-space into a stand-still with a much more subdued set than her other SX affairs: amazingly, there was no video taken of Stef’s *incredible* singing-saw performance that she closed out with. Perhaps a testament that, sometimes, people will still leave their phones in their pockets if they’re zoned-out enough.

BLACK JEANS

New SLOW PUMPER Black Jeans also jammed out at our party; sometimes bookended by primary colors, sometimes not:

D’EON

Dummy Mag Live Review of D’eon here.

D’eon had, unfortunately, been subject to a gear-theft earlier in his trip to Austin. So, making due with what was around him, gave the remaining guests (it was, after all, about 4am when he went on) a live-preview of his upcoming Music for Keyboards album out on Hippos in Tanks soon. It was the perfect way to close the night out; take a look & listen:

MUCH LOVE to Dummy Mag Ruth + SCOTT GELBER and Survive’s KYLE DIXON for all the amazing visuals all night (rig pictured below) + all the performers that made it out and made this one of the most memorable shows ever. – HD
